Need info on barn owl?

Just discovered one nesting in a big birdhouse we have in our tree. We have gophers and sometimes catch them alive. Can we put the almost dead gopher on the ledge of the birdhouse for the owl. Can we look into the birdhouse from a distance without scaring him off? He is so cool, we can see him with binoculars. When do they have babies?
